SCENE SET UP
The photograph, taken in the late afternoon, captures the mountainous landscape in Iceland. I composed the photo using the rule of thirds and depth of field with the large imposing mountain in the background and slopes partially covered with snow. The foreground was a rock, snow-covered terrain with patches of dark rocks. The middle ground was a slow-flowing river with icy patches. The sky was cloudy and overcast.

OBSERVATIONS & REFLECTIONS
I was inspired by the sheer scale and grandeur of the mountain, the tranquillity of the water and the stark beauty of the winter season. I included the house with the red roof in the photo for size reference. The mountain was a strong focal point for me, leading viewers' eyes towards it. The colours are muted and natural with the whites of the snow, the black rocks and the brown slopes on the side of the mountain. One improvement I reflected on during the process was to capture the photo on a day when the sky is more vibrant.
Overall, this photograph is an evocative depiction of the natural landscape in Iceland, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the scene and experience the peace and serenity of this remote and awe-inspiring location.

SCENE SET UP
I took the timelapse in the late afternoon, capturing the dramatic eruption of the geyser in the backdrop of the wintry landscape in Iceland. The sky was pale and overcast. I composed the photo with the geyser's powerful jet of boiling water and steam as the centre of the image. I put the horizon line as low as possible to allow viewers to appreciate the eruption and vastness of the surrounding landscape fully. I captured a series of 70 photos with about 10 photos a second. Given the fleeting moment of the geyser's eruption, I had to repeat the timelapse.

OBSERVATIONS & REFLECTIONS
By combining the photos in a timelapse, I was able to capture the raw energy of this natural phenomenon in a palpable way and contrast sharply with the stillness of the snow background. The cool tones of the snow and the overcast sky help viewers focus on the intense geyser plume, the subtle blues in the pool of water and the brown wet ground surrounding the geyser's vent. The people in the background helped to provide a sense of scale and emphasize the impressive height of the geyser, a reminder of the awe-inspiring power of nature.

SCENE SET UP
The photograph, taken in the late afternoon, captures the black sand beach and dramatic basalt cliffs facing directly into the huge waves of the Atlantic Ocean in Iceland. I composed the photo using leading lines, depth of field, and rule of thirds. I positioned the person slightly off-centre as he pointed at the waves, drawing the viewer's eye to the incoming wave and adding a human connection to the wild, natural environment.

OBSERVATIONS & REFLECTIONS
I love how the black sand beach creates a stark foreground that leads the eye toward the crashing waves and dramatic sky. The smoothness of the sand and the rugged cliffs show a compelling mix of textures. The lighting, while diffused by the overcast sky, creates a soft gradient in the clouds, adding depth to the image. To improve the photo, I would like to experiment with a neutral-density filter to add a longer exposure and create a smoother, dreamier effect to the waves.
